Master Sergeant Gurney Leon “Woody” Leatherwood, 84, husband of Dr Reverend Neva Hartman Leatherwood of Ellicott City, passed away November 8, 2018 in their home. Born October 2nd, 1934 in Mount Airy MD, he was the son of the late W. Russell and Anna Molesworth Leatherwood.

Gurney started working for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in 1953 and then joined the US Air Force in 1955, serving honorably in the Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and North Dakota Air National Guard until 1963. He worked at Bendix as an electronics technician before hiring back on with the B&O Rail Road in the Telecommunications Division, retiring in 1996. In 1979, he joined the Maryland Army National Guard serving as a Combat Engineer until retiring as an E-8 in 1992.

He is survived by his wife Neva, sons Glenn of Omaha, Nebraska and Dan and his wife Heather of Chester Springs Pennsylvania, grandchildren David, Laura, and Jennifer of Omaha, and Alexander, Nathaniel, and Ashlin of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, great grandchildren Violet, Kai, and Greyson of Omaha Nebraska
He was predeceased by his son Dale Leatherwood and brothers Calvin and Ellis Leatherwood.

A Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., November 21st at Bethany United Methodist Church Chapel, 2875 Bethany Lane, Ellicott City, MD 21042. Interment will be held privately.
