On October 29, 2018, Tomos Llewelyn ap Rhys, beloved husband of the late Else (Kraakman) ap Rhys, loving father of Colette ap Rhys, Ann Swarr and Elaine Johanson, cherished grandfather of 7 and great
grandfather of 3, passed away peacefully in his home. Born October 15th,1927 in Bangor North Wales, he was the son of Thomas and Evelyn Kenrick ap Rhys and the brother of Elizabeth Davies, Ceridwen Brown
and Ann Morgan.
Tommy began his higher education and career in the U.K. He was awarded a B.Sc (Honours) from the University College of North Wales and worked for the Marconis W.T. Company and for the Royal Navy Scientific Service.
In 1956, Tommy immigrated to The United States to work for the Westinghouse Electrical Corporation. Subsequently, he joined the Carlyle Barton Laboratory at The Johns Hopkins University. At the same
time he earned a M.S.E. degree and a Dr. Eng. degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore MD. In 1970, he joined the Airborne Radar and Antennas Branch of the Naval Research Laboratories in
Arlington, Va. There, he advanced to the position of Branch Chief and retired at 70 yrs old.
Friends may call Friday Nov 16th from 5-7 p.m. at the Slack Funeral Home, P.A., 3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov 17th at St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church, 10800 Old Court Rd., Woodstock, MD 21163.
