Doris T. (Thompson) Slack is a native of Howard County, MD. In the early 1960's, Doris and her late husband John R. Slack purchased the Higinbothom Funeral Home on Old Columbia Pike, an Ellicott City business begun in 1929. When John died suddenly in 1983, she became President of the Slack Funeral Home, P.A. in Ellicott City, a position which she holds currently.
Doris has been a member of the Howard County General Hospital Community Relations Committee, the Linwood Centerés Charity Golf Committee, a longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church, a former Board Member of The Maryland Chapter of The American Heart Association, a member of the Maryland State Funeral Directorés Association and The Greenbriar Garden Club.
Today, Doris maintains an active role in business operations while consistently volunteering her time and knowledge to various community organizations. In March of 2009, Doris was honored for her lifetime of service and achievement in Howard County by being elected to the Howard County Woman's Hall of Fame. |  |

John Dallas Slack, CFSP is Vice President of Slack Funeral Home, P.A. in Ellicott City, MD. He is a second-generation funeral director and embalmer, and has been managing his family funeral home since 1983.
A 1978 Cum Laude graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and licensed since 1980, John has been active as a member of the Board of Directors for The International Order of The Golden Rule , one of the largest international organizations of independently owned funeral homes, the National Funeral Directors Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association (MSFDA), the MSFDA Disaster Response Team and on numerous committees. He is also a certified Forensic Investigator and a licensed insurance agent in Maryland.
Born and raised in Ellicott City, his civic involvement has included being a member of the Howard County Cemetery Advisory Board, a member of the Board of Directors for Mountain View Cemetery, a member of the Board of Directors for the Ellicott City Volunteer Fireman's Association, a Technical Consultant for the Governor's Task Force on Infant Mortality, membership in Optimist, Rotary, Elks, Jaycees and coaching youth sports.
John and his wife Patti have five children and four grandchildren.

Melody has been a part of Slack Funeral Home, P.A. since February of 2000. A graduate of the Mortuary Science program at the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville, Melody was also awarded the Maryland State Funeral Director's Association scholarship for 2001. She enjoys interacting with families and creating personalized products for the families we serve. Mel and her husband Scott are the proud parents of Grace Kathryn and reside in Baltimore County. |  |

The newest member of our staff, Cynthia is currently a student in the Mortuary Science program at Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville.
Originally from Maryland's Eastern Shore, Cynthia is a 2007 graduate of McDaniel College in Westminster, MD where she earned her B.A. in Art History with a minor in American History. While at McDaniel, Cynthia was a member of the Women's Cross Country Team and a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History Department Honor Society).
On pace to graduate in Spring of 2011, Cynthia currently lives in Arbutus with her German Shepherd, Renoir.
Her duties at the funeral home consist of assisting in all aspect of our services, with her particular field of interest being on the technical end of funeral service. |
