Obituary for Barbara Warfield
Barbara Louise Warfield, of Clarksville, Md., passed away peacefully from natural causes at her home, Limestone Valley Farm on February 14, 2018. She was 93.
Barbara was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in El Paso, Texas. She briefly attended Texas A & M and met Addison Hodges Clark, a young Army officer, at a social function there. They soon married and had 4 children: Addison Hodges, Jr., Richard Talbott, Patricia Clement and Michael Snowden. They later divorced and Barbara married Richard Frank Warfield, of Clarksville, Md. in 1959. They had 2 children - Susan Barbara Louise and Richard Frank, Jr.
Barbara had many interests and accomplishments in her life. She was a member of the Howard County Garden Club for over 60 years and held many leadership positions, including President. She was also a leader at the district and state levels, with one of her proudest achievements becoming a Master Flower Show Judge.
Barbara returned to school at UMBC and received her B.A. cum laude in music in 1981. She was very active in both the choir and bellringers choir at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
She taught elementary school in the Howard County school system and later nursery at Glenelg Country School.
Barbara was a longtime member of the Howard County Historical Society and served as president.
She was very active in Farm Bureau and served as chairperson of the Howard County Farm Bureau Women's Committee for a number of years in the early 70s.
Barbara loved to entertain family and friends, especially presiding over the annual pig roasts held every summer for several decades at her home, Limestone Valley Farm. She loved the farm and worked countless hours in her flower beds when she wasn't taking care of her family.
Barbara is survived by her 6 children, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family will hold a viewing March 16,2018 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at Slack Funeral Home,3871 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, Md. 21043.
A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., March 17, 2018 at St. John's Episcopal Church on Frederick Road in Ellicott City, Md. 21043. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at St. John's Parrish House next door.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. John's Memorial Fund, 1920 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, Md. 21042
